Bookanakere Yediyurappa Vijayendra : An Introduction
Bookanakere Yediyurappa Vijayendra (born November 5, 1975) is an Indian politician and lawyer, currently serving as the 11th State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka since 2023. He also represents the Shikaripura Assembly Constituency as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
The second son of former Chief Minister Shri B.S. Yediyurappa, Vijayendra has combined his father’s legacy with his own leadership to emerge as a prominent political figure in Karnataka. Armed with a law degree, he has been actively serving the people of Karnataka since the start of his political career.
He has held several key positions within the BJP, including General Secretary of Bangalore District, Vice President of Bangalore Yuva Morcha, State General Secretary of BJYM, and Vice President of BJP Karnataka.
Since becoming State President in November 2023, Vijayendra has shown unwavering commitment to grassroots engagement. He completed a remarkable 10,000-kilometer tour across Karnataka in 70 days, prioritizing outreach to marginalized communities and strengthening alliances, including with JD(S), to boost the NDA’s position in the state.
Under his leadership, he spearheaded the “Mysuru Chalo” Padayatra, a movement that mobilized public sentiment against the Congress government’s policies, effectively highlighting issues of corruption and misgovernance.
As State Vice President from 2019 to 2023, Vijayendra led BJP to victories in key by-elections in K.R. Pet and Sira constituencies, areas where the party had limited presence.
In 2018, as General Secretary of the BJP State Youth Wing, he traveled extensively across Karnataka, connecting with young voters and strengthening the party’s youth base. His strategic leadership during the 2018 assembly elections significantly boosted BJP’s presence.
As MLA for Shikaripura, he has focused on improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare, bringing visible benefits to the local community. Vijayendra’s leadership style is hands-on, community-focused, and rooted in public service.
